Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Optionally line with parchment paper.
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using), and mix on low speed until fully incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the bars to cool for 10 minutes in the pan. Then, lift the bars out of the pan using the parchment paper (if used) and cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, frost with powdered sugar and milk, and top with sprinkles or toppings of your choice. Cut into squares and serve.
