Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Optionally line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using), and mix on low speed until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.

  7. Allow the bars to cool for 10 minutes in the pan. Then, lift the bars out of the pan using the parchment paper (if used) and cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. Once cooled, frost with powdered sugar and milk, and top with sprinkles or toppings of your choice. Cut into squares and serve.
