Description
Snowball cookies are delightful round, buttery treats rolled in powdered sugar, often made with finely chopped nuts, perfect for holiday celebrations and gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (about 227 grams)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus extra for dusting (about 60 grams)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (about 240 grams)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup finely chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) (about 120 grams)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened butter and 1/2 cup of powdered sugar until light and fluffy, then add the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt, then gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Fold in the finely chopped nuts.
- Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the bottoms are lightly golden. Let them cool for 5 minutes, then roll in powdered sugar while still warm.
Notes
- Choose walnuts or pecans for the best flavor, or experiment with hazelnuts or almonds.
- Be careful not to overmix the dough to maintain a soft and crumbly texture.
- Let cookies cool slightly before rolling in powdered sugar for better adherence.
