Description

Shanghai Angus Steak is a delightful dish that combines tender Angus beef with vibrant Asian flavors, featuring a savory marinade of soy sauce, ginger, and garlic.

Ingredients

  • Angus beef steak – 1 lb (450 g)
  • Soy sauce – 1/4 cup (60 ml)
  • Fresh ginger – 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Garlic – 3 cloves, minced
  • Scallions – 1/4 cup, chopped (green parts only)
  • Sesame oil – 2 tablespoons (30 ml)
  • Black pepper – 1 teaspoon (or to taste)
  • Honey – 1 tablespoon (15 g)
  • Olive oil – 1 tablespoon (for searing)
  • Optional garnish: Additional scallions and sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Select a well-marbled Angus steak cut (ribeye, sirloin, or tenderloin).
  2. Combine soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, honey, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  3. Marinate the steak in the mixture for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours.
  4. Remove the steak from the marinade and let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare.
  6. Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  7. Serve with any remaining marinade drizzled on top and garnish with scallions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the marinade.
  • Consider using citrus juice for a refreshing twist.
  • Grilling is an excellent alternative cooking method.
  • Always let the steak rest after cooking for juicier results.
