Description

Sausage with sauerkraut and potatoes is a delightful dish that combines savory flavors and hearty ingredients, featuring smoky sausages, tangy sauerkraut, and tender potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 smoky sausage links (kielbasa or bratwurst)
  • 2 cups sauerkraut (drained and rinsed)
  • 500 grams baby potatoes (halved)
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients: wash and halve the baby potatoes, slice the onion, and mince the garlic. Drain and rinse the sauerkraut if too salty.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat and cook the sausage links for 5-7 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet, sauté the sliced onions for 3-4 minutes, then add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add the sauerkraut to the skillet and stir gently to warm it up.
  5. Add the halved baby potatoes, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and caraway seeds, and cook for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and tender.
  6. Return the browned sausages to the skillet, drizzle with apple cider vinegar, stir gently, cover, and let simmer on low heat for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley, and enjoy with crusty bread or mustard.

Notes

  • Choose high-quality sausages for better taste.
  • Consider adding a splash of beer while simmering for deeper flavors.
  • Experiment with different herbs and spices for added flavor.
  • Vegetarian alternatives include veggie sausages or mushrooms.
  • Mix different types of potatoes for a unique flavor experience.
