Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 1 1/4 cups (150 g)
- Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (115 g), chilled and cubed
- Ice water: 3-4 tablespoons
- Granny Smith apples: 3 medium, peeled, cored, and sliced
- Brown sugar: 1/3 cup (70 g)
- Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
- Pecans: 1/2 cup (60 g), chopped
- Egg wash: 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon of water
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by combining all-purpose flour and chilled, cubed unsalted butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until the dough comes together, then form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss sliced Granny Smith apples with brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped pecans in a large bowl.
- Roll out the chilled dough into a rough circle about 12 inches in diameter on a floured surface. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and spoon the apple filling into the center, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges over the filling.
- Brush the edges with egg wash and bake for 35-40 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
