Description
Rhubarb crumble is a classic dessert that blends the tartness of rhubarb with a crumbly topping, creating a delightful and comforting treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of rhubarb, chopped (about 1 lb)
- 1 cup of granulated sugar (adjust based on tartness preference)
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of rolled oats
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar or granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Wash and chop the rhubarb into small pieces. In a mixing bowl, combine rhubarb, sugar, and flour. Add vanilla extract if desired.
- Transfer the rhubarb mixture into the greased baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add melted butter and combine until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping over the rhubarb filling evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the rhubarb is bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a dairy-free version, use coconut oil or vegan butter.
- For gluten-free, swap regular flour and oats for gluten-free alternatives.
- If the crumble topping browns too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil until fully cooked.
- Let the rhubarb sit with the sugar for 10-15 minutes before baking to release more juice and enhance flavor.
