Description

A delightful twist on the classic French madeleines, infused with pumpkin puree and warm spices, perfect for fall.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120 g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (113 g), melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100 g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (120 g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease the madeleine pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.
  3. In a larger bowl, mix the melted butter and sugar until combined, then add eggs one at a time, whisking well.
  4. Stir in the pumpkin puree and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Fill each madeleine mold about two-thirds full with batter.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown and springy to the touch.
  8. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Use 100% pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.
  • Ensure the batter is thick but pourable; add a splash of milk if too thick.
  • Experiment with additional spices like allspice or cardamom for unique flavors.
  • Chocolate chips can be added for a delicious variation.
