Description
A delightful, rustic Pear Ginger Galette that combines the sweetness of ripe pears with the warm, spicy kick of fresh ginger, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
- Ripe pears: 4 medium, peeled, cored, and sliced
- Fresh ginger: 1 tablespoon, grated
- All-purpose flour: 1 ½ cups
- Unsalted butter: 6 tablespoons, chilled and cubed
- Sugar: 3 tablespoons (plus extra for sprinkling)
- Salt: ¼ teaspoon
- Ice water: 4-6 tablespoons
- Egg: 1, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by combining flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl, then adding chilled butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water until the dough comes together, then form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the pear filling by tossing sliced pears with grated ginger and 1 tablespoon of sugar, letting it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough into a 12-inch circle and transfer it to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Place the pear mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border, and fold the edges over the filling.
- Brush the exposed dough with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar, then bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 30-35 minutes.
- Allow the galette to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Choose ripe, sweet pears like Bartlett, Bosc, or Anjou for the best flavor.
- Adjust the amount of ginger to suit your taste preferences.
- Consider using alternative fruits like apples, peaches, or cranberries for variations.
- For gluten-free options, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend or almond flour.
