Description
A delightful dessert combining the sweetness of pears with the rich flavor of brown sugar, featuring a buttery crust and tender, caramelized pears.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium ripe pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup water (optional, for steaming pears)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to prevent browning of pears)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, salt, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon to form a dough.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch tart pan.
- In a small saucepan, melt an additional 1/4 cup of brown sugar with 2 tablespoons of butter over low heat to create a glaze.
- Toss sliced pears with lemon juice in a large bowl to prevent browning. Optionally, steam them for about 5 minutes.
- Layer the sliced pears in a circular pattern over the crust, overlapping slightly.
- Drizzle the melted brown sugar mixture over the arranged pears.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the pears are tender.
- Let the tart cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Choose ripe pears like Bartlett, Bosc, or Anjou for the best flavor.
- Adjust the sweetness by increasing or decreasing the amount of brown sugar.
- Consider adding spices like nutmeg or ginger for extra flavor.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with almond flour or a gluten-free blend.
