Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, plus more for topping
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar for the chocolate dough until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and mix well.
- Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture. Add milk, then fold in chocolate chips.
- In a separate bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for the peanut butter dough. Add egg, peanut butter, and vanilla and mix well.
- Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl, and slowly add to the wet peanut butter mixture. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Cover both doughs with plastic wrap and chill for at least 3 hours, or up to 3 days.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll 2 tbsp of each dough into balls, then press together into one swirl ball.
- Place dough balls onto baking sheet with space between them. Bake for 12–14 minutes until edges are set and centers look soft.
- Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Do not skip chilling the dough—this helps cookies hold shape.
- Use room temperature ingredients for best texture.
- Overbaking will make cookies dry; pull them when the centers are still soft.
- Optional: sprinkle sea salt or drizzle melted chocolate on top before serving.
- Substitute nut butter or use gluten-free flour to suit dietary needs.
