Description
A simple and flavorful one pan Lebanese kafta recipe that combines ground meat with spices and sautéed tomatoes for a delicious meal.
Ingredients
- Ground beef: 500 grams (about 1 lb)
- Fresh parsley: 1/2 cup, finely chopped
- Onion: 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
- Ground cumin: 1 teaspoon
- Ground coriander: 1 teaspoon
- Ground allspice: 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt: 1 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Black pepper: 1/2 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
- Tomatoes: 2 medium, chopped
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, parsley, onion, and garlic. Add cumin, coriander, allspice, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- With wet hands, shape the mixture into elongated patties, about 2 inches long and 1 inch thick.
- Chop the tomatoes into small pieces for sautéing.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the kafta patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the kafta from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, sauté the chopped tomatoes for 2-3 minutes until softened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Return the kafta to the pan with the sautéed tomatoes and warm through for another minute. Serve hot, garnished with parsley.
Notes
- Overmixing the meat can make it tough; mix just until combined.
- Use wet hands to shape the kafta to prevent sticking.
- Cook in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Let the kafta rest after cooking for juicier results.
- Taste the mixture before cooking to adjust seasoning.
