Ingredients

  • 100 grams unsalted butter, melted
  • 397 grams sweetened condensed milk (1 can)
  • 100 grams light brown sugar
  • 100 grams unsalted butter (for caramel layer)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 200 grams dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for chocolate topping)
  • Sea salt (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base by crushing the digestive biscuits and mixing with melted butter. Press into a lined baking pan and refrigerate.
  2. Make the caramel layer by combining sweetened condensed milk, light brown sugar, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until thickened, then add vanilla extract and pour over the base.
  3. Prepare the chocolate topping by melting dark chocolate and butter together until smooth.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer, sprinkle with sea salt if desired, and refrigerate until set.
  5. Once set, lift the bars out of the pan, cut into squares, and serve.
