Description

A fun and whimsical cake perfect for celebrations like birthdays and Halloween, featuring vibrant colors and playful decorations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Green food coloring (gel or liquid)
  • 1 cup buttercream frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Fondant (white and colored for decorations)
  • Gummy candies (for teeth and other decorations)
  • Edible glitter (optional)
  • Sprinkles (various colors)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, until just combined. Divide the batter into three bowls, adding green food coloring to one bowl.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  5. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. If making homemade buttercream, beat together 1 cup of softened butter with 4 cups of powdered sugar, 1/4 cup of milk, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.
  7. Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a serving plate, spreading buttercream frosting on top, adding the second layer, and repeating. Place the third layer on top.
  8. Frost the entire exterior of the cake with remaining buttercream. Decorate with fondant for eyes and mouth, gummy candies for teeth, and add sprinkles and edible glitter for a festive touch.

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the cake light and fluffy.
  • Always preheat your oven for even baking.
  • Measure ingredients accurately for best results.
  • Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter.
