Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in the milk, then gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  6. Fold in the grated apples and chopped walnuts until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Optional: Sprinkle the top with brown sugar, cinnamon, and extra walnuts.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
