Maple pumpkin scones are a delightful treat that perfectly captures the essence of fall, combining warm flavors of pumpkin and spices with the sweetness of maple syrup.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 g)
  • Pumpkin puree: 1 cup (240 g)
  • Brown sugar: 1/2 cup (100 g), packed
  • Baking powder: 1 tablespoon (15 g)
  • Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon (2 g)
  • Ground nutmeg: 1/2 teaspoon (1 g)
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon (3 g)
  • Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (113 g), cold and cubed
  • Heavy cream: 1/4 cup (60 ml), plus more for brushing
  • Maple syrup: 1/4 cup (60 ml)
  • Powdered sugar: 1 cup (120 g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the pumpkin puree and heavy cream together, then pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat it down into a circle about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick.
  5. Cut the circle into 8 equal wedges and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches (5 cm) apart.
  6. Brush the tops of the scones with additional heavy cream and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

  • For a richer flavor, consider adding spices like ginger or allspice.
  • You can customize the scones by adding nuts or chocolate chips.
  • Store leftover scones in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
