Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 g)
- Granulated sugar: 3/4 cup (150 g)
- Baking powder: 2 teaspoons
- Baking soda: 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon: 1/2 teaspoon
- Whole milk: 3/4 cup (180 ml)
- Eggs: 2 large
- Unsalted butter: 1/4 cup (60 g), melted
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Maple syrup: 1/4 cup (60 ml)
- Powdered sugar: 1 cup (120 g)
- Crushed pecans: 1/2 cup (60 g) – optional
- Oil: for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Whisk until well mixed.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for about 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
- Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry each donut for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and powdered sugar until smooth to make the glaze.
- Dip the tops of each donut into the glaze and place on a wire rack to let the glaze set. Optionally, sprinkle crushed pecans on top.
