  • Baking powder: 2 teaspoons

  • Ground cinnamon: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Whole milk: 3/4 cup (180 ml)
  • Eggs: 2 large
  • Unsalted butter: 1/4 cup (60 g), melted
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Maple syrup: 1/4 cup (60 ml)
  • Powdered sugar: 1 cup (120 g)
  • Crushed pecans: 1/2 cup (60 g) – optional
  • Oil: for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Whisk until well mixed.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for about 30 minutes.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry each donut for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and powdered sugar until smooth to make the glaze.
  7. Dip the tops of each donut into the glaze and place on a wire rack to let the glaze set. Optionally, sprinkle crushed pecans on top.
