Description

Maple Gingerbread Cake with Spiced Cream is a moist, fluffy cake infused with warm spices and sweet maple syrup, topped with a creamy spiced frosting. Perfect for cozy fall gatherings or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1⁄2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) hot water
  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy (3-5 minutes). Add maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract; beat until combined.
  4. Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk to wet ingredients, starting and ending with flour. Stir until just combined. Then stir in hot water until batter is smooth.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 35-40 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick. Cool completely in pan.
  6. For spiced cream: whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Avoid overwhipping.
  7. Slice cooled cake and serve with a generous dollop of spiced cream. Optionally, garnish with cinnamon or maple syrup drizzle.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for smoother batter.
  • Do not overmix batter to avoid toughness.
  • Check cake doneness with a toothpick to avoid under- or overbaking.
  • Fresh spices enhance flavor; adjust spice amounts to taste.
  • Spiced cream is best whipped fresh before serving.
