Description

Delicious homemade cheddar biscuits that are flaky, cheesy, and perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk, divided
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for topping)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh chopped parsley (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in 1 cup of buttermilk and the honey. Gently fold the mixture together.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, bring the dough together, then flatten into a rectangle about 3/4 inch thick.
  7. Fold the dough into thirds and rotate, flattening again to 3/4 inch thick. Repeat this two more times.
  8. Cut out 2 to 3-inch circles from the dough and place on a baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops with the remaining buttermilk.
  10. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Mix the topping ingredients and brush over warm biscuits after baking.
  12. Serve warm.

Notes

These biscuits can be customized with different cheeses or herbs. Use cold ingredients for the best texture.
