Delicious homemade cheddar biscuits that are flaky, cheesy, and perfect for any meal.
Ingredients

- 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk, divided
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for topping)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for topping)
- 1 teaspoon dried or fresh chopped parsley (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in 1 cup of buttermilk and the honey. Gently fold the mixture together.
- On a lightly floured surface, bring the dough together, then flatten into a rectangle about 3/4 inch thick.
- Fold the dough into thirds and rotate, flattening again to 3/4 inch thick. Repeat this two more times.
- Cut out 2 to 3-inch circles from the dough and place on a baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with the remaining buttermilk.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Mix the topping ingredients and brush over warm biscuits after baking.
- Serve warm.
Notes
These biscuits can be customized with different cheeses or herbs. Use cold ingredients for the best texture.
