Description

Soft, flaky, and buttery homemade biscuits that are easy to make and perfect for breakfast, dinner, or any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and very cold
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in 1 cup of buttermilk and honey. Gently fold until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a 3/4-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Fold one side of the dough into the center, then the other side over. Rotate and repeat two more times to create layers.
  7. Flatten dough again to 3/4 inch thickness and cut out biscuits with a round cutter.
  8. Place biscuits close together on a baking sheet or in a cast-iron skillet.
  9. Brush the tops with remaining 2 tablespoons of buttermilk.
  10. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Optional: Brush with melted butter and honey before serving.

Notes

  • Don’t overwork the dough to keep biscuits tender and flaky.
  • Ensure butter is very cold for best results.
  • Can be frozen before baking for future use.
  • Use fresh baking powder for a good rise.
