Description

Easy shrimp tempura is a delicious Japanese dish featuring shrimp coated in a light, crispy batter and deep-fried to perfection.

Ingredients

  • Large shrimp: 1 lb (about 450 g), peeled and deveined.
  • Tempura batter mix: 1 cup (about 120 g).
  • Ice-cold water: 1 cup (about 240 ml).
  • Vegetable oil: for frying (approximately 4 cups or 1 liter).
  • Salt: to taste.
  • Optional: Dipping sauce (soy sauce or tempura dipping sauce).

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp by rinsing under cold water and patting dry with paper towels.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the tempura batter mix with ice-cold water and stir gently until just combined.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip each shrimp into the tempura batter and carefully place them into the hot oil, frying in small batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Remove the shrimp from the oil and drain on paper towels, sprinkling with salt before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh, large shrimp for the best flavor.
  • Maintain oil temperature at around 350°F (175°C) for optimal frying.
  • Consider adding a pinch of baking soda to the batter for extra crispiness.
  • Serve with soy sauce or a spicy dipping sauce for added flavor.
