Description

Easy Cherry Cobbler is a comforting homemade dessert that combines sweet, ripe cherries with a buttery, cake-like topping. This simple yet delicious treat is perfect for enjoying warm or at room temperature and is great for family gatherings or casual indulgences.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh sweet cherries, pitted and halved
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 6 pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Optional: 1–2 tablespoons coarse sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Place the butter pieces in a 9-inch pie dish, square pan, or 10-inch cast iron skillet and allow to melt as the oven heats.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth and lump-free.
  4. Carefully remove the hot dish from the oven and evenly spread the halved cherries over the melted butter.
  5. Pour the batter evenly over the cherries. Sprinkle coarse sugar on top if desired for a crunchy texture.
  6. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, checking for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center—it should come out mostly clean with moist crumbs.
  7. If the top browns too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil.
  8. Let the cobbler cool for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Measure ingredients accurately to avoid dense batter.
  • Allow cobbler to cool before cutting to prevent runny filling.
  • Use an oven thermometer to ensure correct baking temperature.
  • Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to cherries for enhanced flavor.
  • Serve with ice cream, whipped cream, or drizzle with chocolate or caramel sauce.
