Cursed Caramel Bars are a delightful dessert featuring a rich buttery crust, gooey caramel layer, and smooth chocolate topping, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- Unsalted butter: 1 cup (226 grams), divided
- Granulated sugar: 1 cup (200 grams)
- Brown sugar: 1 cup (220 grams), packed
- Light corn syrup: 1/2 cup (120 ml)
- Sweetened condensed milk: 1 can (14 oz or 396 grams)
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 grams)
- Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: 2 cups (340 grams)
- Sea salt flakes: for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and mix it into the flour mixture until crumbly.
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, light corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring until boiling, then let it boil for 5 minutes without stirring.
- Remove from heat and let the caramel cool slightly.
- Press half of the crumbly mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the caramel filling over the crust and spread it evenly.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the caramel layer and gently press it down.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown. Let it cool completely in the pan.
- Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips and pour over the cooled bars, spreading evenly. Sprinkle sea salt flakes on top.
- Allow to set at room temperature for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares and serving.
