Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter: 1 cup (226 grams), divided
  • Granulated sugar: 1 cup (200 grams)
  • Brown sugar: 1 cup (220 grams), packed
  • Light corn syrup: 1/2 cup (120 ml)
  • Sweetened condensed milk: 1 can (14 oz or 396 grams)
  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 grams)
  • Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips: 2 cups (340 grams)
  • Sea salt flakes: for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and mix it into the flour mixture until crumbly.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, light corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring until boiling, then let it boil for 5 minutes without stirring.
  5. Remove from heat and let the caramel cool slightly.
  6. Press half of the crumbly mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  7. Pour the caramel filling over the crust and spread it evenly.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the caramel layer and gently press it down.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown. Let it cool completely in the pan.
  10. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips and pour over the cooled bars, spreading evenly. Sprinkle sea salt flakes on top.
  11. Allow to set at room temperature for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares and serving.
