Description

A delicious and easy cheesy broccoli recipe that combines fresh broccoli with creamy cheese and a crispy topping, perfect for both kids and adults.

Ingredients

  • Fresh broccoli florets: 500 grams (about 4 cups)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese: 250 grams (about 2 cups), shredded
  • Heavy cream: 240 ml (1 cup)
  • Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
  • Butter: 30 grams (2 tablespoons)
  • Breadcrumbs: 100 grams (about 1 cup)
  • Black pepper: to taste
  • Salt: to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the fresh broccoli florets thoroughly and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Steam or blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until bright green and slightly tender, then drain.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic for about 1 minute.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer, then gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
  5. Season the cheese sauce with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine the steamed broccoli with the cheese sauce, ensuring all florets are coated.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and prepare the breadcrumb topping by mixing breadcrumbs with melted butter.
  8. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the broccoli and cheese.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a milder taste, try using mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese.
  • To avoid overcooking, consider using an ice bath after blanching the broccoli.
  • You can prepare the dish ahead of time and refrigerate it before baking.
