- Pita bread: 4 pockets
- Cucumber: 1 medium, diced
- Plain yogurt: 1 cup (240 g)
- Fresh dill: 2 tablespoons, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried dill)
- Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
- Salt: to taste
- Olive oil: 1 tablespoon (for cooking)
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.
- Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
- Add ground beef, breaking it up, and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned.
- Stir in diced mushrooms and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Season with salt and remove from heat, then stir in shredded cheese until melted.
- In a mixing bowl, combine plain yogurt, diced cucumber, chopped dill, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt to make tzatziki sauce.
- Warm pita bread and carefully open each pocket.
- Fill each pita pocket with the cheesy beef and mushroom mixture.
- Optionally, toast the filled pita pockets in a skillet for a couple of minutes on each side.
- Serve warm with tzatziki sauce on the side or drizzled on top.
