Description
Char Siu Chicken is a delicious dish featuring tender chicken thighs marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, originating from Chinese cuisine.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 chicken thighs: Boneless and skinless
- 1/2 cup char siu sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 3 cloves garlic: minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger: grated
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper: to taste
- Green onions: chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken by mixing char siu sauce, honey, soy sauce, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil in a bowl.
- Place chicken thighs in a resealable bag or dish, pour marinade over, seal, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Prepare the Char Siu sauce by reserving some marinade before adding chicken; simmer reserved marinade for a thicker glaze if desired.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), line a baking sheet with foil, and place a wire rack on top.
- Remove chicken from marinade, place on the rack, and bake for 25-30 minutes until internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C); broil for 2-3 minutes for caramelization.
- Let chicken rest for 5 minutes, slice, and drizzle with remaining marinade or glaze; garnish with green onions.
- Serve warm with steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are recommended for juiciness.
- Marinate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for best flavor.
- Check internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure safety.
