- Powdered sugar: for dusting
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk with a tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
- Gently punch down the dough, roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick, and cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
- Place the cut donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover them, and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Dust the warm donuts with powdered sugar or glaze them with your favorite icing before serving.
