Description

Beef kefta with hummus and salad is a delightful dish that combines seasoned ground beef patties with creamy hummus and a refreshing tomato cucumber salad.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef: 500 grams (about 1 pound)
  • Onion: 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
  • Ground cumin: 1 teaspoon
  • Ground coriander: 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley: 1/4 cup, finely chopped
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil: 2 tablespoons (for cooking)
  • Tahini: 1/4 cup
  • Lemon juice: 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic: 1 clove, minced
  • Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Cooked chickpeas: 1 can (about 400 grams or 14 ounces), drained and rinsed
  • Salt: to taste
  • Water: as needed for consistency
  • Tomatoes: 2 medium, diced
  • Cucumbers: 1 medium, diced
  • Fresh mint: 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
  • Salt: to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly and let sit for a few minutes.
  2. In a food processor, blend tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and olive oil. Add chickpeas and blend until smooth, adjusting consistency with water as needed.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine diced tomatoes, cucumbers, and mint. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, and season with salt. Toss gently.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Shape the beef mixture into patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  5. On a serving platter, arrange the beef kefta, add a scoop of hummus, and place the tomato cucumber salad alongside. Garnish with fresh mint if desired.

Notes

  • Use ground beef with 15-20% fat for juiciness.
  • Let the beef mixture rest for at least 30 minutes before cooking for better flavor.
  • Experiment with spices and herbs to enhance flavor.
