Ingredients

  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whipped cream

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  3. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and gradually add some of the hot mixture to temper the yolks.
  4. Return the egg mixture to the saucepan and cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
  6. Slice bananas and layer them with vanilla wafers in a dish.
  7. Pour the pudding over the layers.
  8. Top with whipped cream.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
