Description
Authentic Mexican buñuelos are delightful, crispy treats made from a simple dough, rolled out thin and fried until golden brown, often dusted with sugar and cinnamon.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 grams)
- Baking powder: 1 teaspoon (5 grams)
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 grams)
- Sugar: 2 tablespoons (25 grams) plus extra for dusting
- Eggs: 2 large
- Milk: 1/2 cup (120 milliliters)
- Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon (2.5 grams) plus extra for dusting
- Oil for frying: Enough for deep frying (about 2 cups or 480 milliliters)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Gradually add to the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface, divide into small balls, and roll each into thin discs (6-8 inches in diameter).
- Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Fry each disc for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Dust with sugar and cinnamon while warm.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Be careful not to overwork the dough to keep buñuelos light and crispy.
- Ensure the oil temperature is consistent for even frying.
- Dust with sugar and cinnamon while still warm for better adherence.
