- ¼ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix in the sour cream until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Fold in the diced apples.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the streusel by mixing flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the batter.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
