Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 ½ cups, plus extra for dusting
- Granulated sugar: ½ cup
- Unsalted butter: 1 cup, cold and cut into small cubes
- Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: ½ teaspoon
- Apples: 4 medium, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar: ½ cup, packed
- Granulated sugar: ½ cup
- Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
Instructions
- Prepare the crust by mixing flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add cold butter and mix until crumbly. Stir in beaten egg and vanilla extract, reserving 1 cup for topping.
- Press the remaining dough into the bottom of a prepared baking dish.
- Prepare the apple filling by tossing sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust and crumble the reserved dough on top.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
- Cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares and serving.
