Description
A cozy treat that combines the warm flavors of gingerbread with the sweetness of apples, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 g)
- Brown sugar: 1 cup (200 g), packed
- Ground ginger: 1 tablespoon (15 g)
- Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon (2 g)
- Baking soda: 1 teaspoon (5 g)
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon (3 g)
- Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (113 g), softened
- Eggs: 2 large
- Fresh apples: 2 medium, peeled, cored, and diced (about 2 cups or 250 g)
- Powdered sugar: for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix on low speed until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, cut into squares, and serve.
Notes
- Choose firm and slightly tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best flavor.
- Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste preferences.
- For gluten-free bars, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
- For vegan bars, replace eggs with flaxseed meal or applesauce and use vegan butter.
