Description
Apple crumble is a comforting dessert with a buttery topping and juicy apple filling. Perfect for any occasion or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
Scale
- For the filling:
- 4 cups of apples (about 4–5 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 1 cup of sugar (adjust based on the sweetness of the apples)
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- For the crumble topping:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of rolled oats
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into thin wedges or cubes. Toss with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice, and allow the mixture to sit for 10-15 minutes.
- For the crumble topping: In a separate bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly, resembling sand with pea-sized butter pieces.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased 9×9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples, covering them as evenly as possible.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling. Remove from the oven and let sit for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a dairy-free version, replace butter with coconut oil or vegan butter.
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith or sweet ones like Fuji for different flavor profiles.
- Let the apples sit in sugar for better flavor development.
