Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups peeled and diced apples (about 3–4 medium apples)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cold butter (cubed)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
- For the base, combine 1 ¼ cups flour, ½ cup brown sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until crumbly. Press into the pan.
- For the apple filling, combine apples, cinnamon, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Toss until apples are well-coated, then spread over the base.
- For the crumble topping, mix oats, ½ cup flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add cold butter and combine until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of apples.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and apples are tender. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting into bars.
Notes
- Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Fuji for the best flavor.
- Allow bars to cool completely before cutting for clean edges.
- Chill the butter before mixing into the topping for a flakier, buttery crumble.
