Description

A delightful recipe for Apple Cinnamon Scones that combines the warm flavors of apples and cinnamon, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon snack.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 g)
  • Granulated sugar: 1/3 cup (67 g)
  • Baking powder: 1 tablespoon (12 g)
  • Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon (2 g)
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon (3 g)
  • Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (115 g), cold and cubed
  • Apples: 1 cup (about 1 medium apple), peeled, cored, and diced
  • Heavy cream: 1/2 cup (120 ml), plus more for brushing
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
  • Powdered sugar: for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and work it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the diced apples and sprinkle in more cinnamon if desired.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream and vanilla extract, then pour into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
  7. Cut the circle into 8 wedges or use a round cutter for individual scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with additional heavy cream and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Use fresh apples for the best flavor and texture.
  • For gluten-free scones, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
  • For vegan scones, replace butter with vegan butter and heavy cream with plant-based milk.
