- Granulated sugar: 1/3 cup (67 g)
- Baking powder: 1 tablespoon (12 g)
- Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon (2 g)
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon (3 g)
- Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (115 g), cold and cubed
- Apples: 1 cup (about 1 medium apple), peeled, cored, and diced
- Heavy cream: 1/2 cup (120 ml), plus more for brushing
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
- Powdered sugar: for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and work it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Fold in the diced apples and sprinkle in more cinnamon if desired.
- In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream and vanilla extract, then pour into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
- Cut the circle into 8 wedges or use a round cutter for individual scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with additional heavy cream and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Use fresh apples for the best flavor and texture.
- For gluten-free scones, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
- For vegan scones, replace butter with vegan butter and heavy cream with plant-based milk.
