Description

Apple Cinnamon Scones with Caramel combine warm fall flavors with a flaky texture and a sweet caramel drizzle. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, these scones offer a comforting bite of spiced apple goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for hands and work surface
  • 2 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, frozen
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, plus 2 tablespoons for brushing
  • 1 large egg, cold
  • 1/2 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 heaping cup peeled and chopped apple
  • Optional toppings: coarse sugar
  • 1/2 cup store-bought or homemade caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt together in a large bowl.
  3. Grate frozen butter into the dry mixture and combine until it resembles pea-sized crumbs. Refrigerate the mixture while preparing wet ingredients.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, egg, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry mixture and add chopped apples. Gently mix with a spatula or hands until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently into a ball. Press into an 8-inch disc and cut into 8 wedges.
  7. Place scones on a lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  8. Brush tops with remaining heavy cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  9. Bake for 22–25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool slightly before drizzling with caramel sauce and serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the dough to keep scones tender.
  • Use cold or frozen butter for best texture.
  • Firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best.
  • Chilling the dough before baking helps achieve flakiness.
  • Weigh ingredients for more accurate results.
