- 6 cups of day-old bread
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups of whole milk
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/2 cup of raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Additional ground cinnamon for serving
Instructions
- Cube the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces and toss with melted butter.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt to make the custard.
- Add diced apples and raisins to the bread mixture, then pour the custard over it and fold gently. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and pour the mixture into a baking dish. Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown.
- Let it cool for 10-15 minutes, then serve dusted with powdered sugar and additional cinnamon, optionally with ice cream or caramel sauce.
