  • 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Cut the day-old bread into cubes and place in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, bourbon, sugar, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  3. Add diced apples to the bowl with the cubed bread and toss gently.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and apples, stirring gently to combine. Let sit for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and set.
